Swimming

This summer, we decided it was time for Evan to become proficient in the water.  He’s always been comfortable in a swimming pool/the ocean/etc. but wasn’t really able to swim.  So for the past six weeks, he’s had swimming class every Monday – Thursday morning at the local public pool.  It’s been great to see him getting so comfortable in the water, and it has done wonders for his confidence.
As I mentioned in the last post, he spent a ton of time in the pool while we were in Corning, NY last month.  Then Wendy was in town for a couple of weeks and she took Evan with her to the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA.  This is a hotel/resort with a gigantic indoor water park.  So Evan spent hours and hours every day in the water.  http://www.greatwolf.com/williamsburg/waterpark  Add to that the afternoons and evenings that Barrett & I have spent with him at the local pool and in friend’s backyard pools, and you get a kid who’s spent a ton of time in the water this summer and is now swimming!
This past Thursday marked the end of swimming classes for the summer.  Evan was afraid of the little 1 foot diving board at the beginning of the summer, and yesterday it was all I could do to get him to stop jumping off the 1 meter board.  I’m so happy that he’s developed a love of the water and that he’s confident enough in his skills to try new things each time we’re at the pool.
