Swimming

This summer, we decided it was time for Evan to become proficient in the water.  He’s always been comfortable in a swimming pool/the ocean/etc. but wasn’t really able to swim.  So for the past six weeks, he’s had swimming class every Monday – Thursday morning at the local public pool.  It’s been great to see him getting so comfortable in the water, and it has done wonders for his confidence.

Last road-trip before the twins.

Two weeks ago Mom mentioned that she wanted to go to Corning and Rochester for five days, did Evan and I want to join her?  Well, the answer, of course, was yes.  It was great to be able to get a last trip in before the babies arrive, and I was thrilled to give Barrett five days to himself.  So last Friday Mom, Evan and I got in my new minivan and headed to NY state.

I’m back

Trying to get back into writing.  It’s been what?  Four months?  Last post was about skiing and it was 90 degrees today, so a lot of time has passed.

Skiing

“It was really fun.  I want to go again.  My favorite part was going up the Magic Carpet and then skiing down the big hill.  I liked having Rachael, Uncle Terry, Aunt Beth & you there, mama.  I liked the skis and the boots, stepping into the skis was fun.  That’s everything, except I really want to go again.”

The Smiths are going back to Italy!!!!

YAY!  We are going to go visit Wendy for Easter this year.  It’s been almost two years since the last Italian sojourn and this time all three of us are going to go together.  We found an amazing fare, round-trip to Rome.  I love that city!  Evan running around the Circus Maximus, playing with a ball is one of my favorite memories.  Given, it’s likely not the image that most travelers would conjure when thinking of the Eternal City, but it’s among my favorites.

Marcelo went home!

Monday afternoon, Marcelo got to go home and join his family!  I spent a few hours watching Lina while Syl & Lalo went to the hospital and had a great time with her.  Baby time is awesome!
Marcelo came home and it was so heartwarming to see the Quiros family complete.  I’m so happy that things have gone to well for the twins since their dramatic birth!!  Welcome home guys, let the spoiling begin!

Lina goes home!!

On Friday afternoon, Lina got to go home!  It was exactly one month after Sylvia’s dad died…which offers some closure to a hectic month, allowing things to end on a good note.
I helped Sylvia drive Lina home from the hospital.  Evan got to come over and finally meet Lina.  He was so tender and excited about her…”She’s my new PRIMA!” was one of his favorite things to say.  He got to hold her for a few minutes and really seems enchanted with her.

Super cold hiking…

It was a great day, though cold, so we decided to go hiking at Great Falls today.  With all the rain we had last week a lot of the Billy Goat Trail was underwater, but we were able to get some scrabbling and hiking done.  We walked along the C&O Canal for a while and then across the bridges to Olmstead Island.  It was a fabulous couple of hours, even if I was cold until about five tonight.

Lina and Marcelo are two weeks old!

The twins are getting bigger and stronger and even cuter!!  I’ve been over to see them a few more times.  Mom, Dad & Barrett also met them last week.  Evan can’t understand why he can’t go into NICU and even chose a bunch of toys that he wanted to share with them.  There’s just no way to have a non-sibling into NICU to see them and he understands but he wants to meet them so badly.  He keeps telling me “Mama, I’m praying for the twins and Tia Sylvia.”  It’s so sweet.

Visit to the National Air & Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center.

What a long name for a museum!!  Evan and I have been reading a lot about space and the solar system lately.  One of his favorite books, Viaje a la Luna, and some others have piqued his interest in rockets, shuttles, the other planets, etc.  Since we had nothing going on today I thought it would be a great day to check out the museum.
